Loving Life in Sacramento

So I've been busy setting up the house here in Sac. Things are going great, our house is super cute but the neighborhood is kinda sketchy. Sometimes "professional women" stand our street corner and conduct their business. lol. But the house is close to the hospital and all the freeways so I'll put up with a little late night entertainment.
The trip down here was such an adventure. I got in a car accident right before we got to Sac. Some lady hit me at 60 Mph. But thankfully I'm okay. I hurt my ankle and I've been walking around on crutches for the past week, tomorrow I will not be bringing my crutches to work with me. My car on the other hand needs some attention. Hopefully it will be getting fixed here soon. It's still drivable but doesn't look to cute.
Tonight I went to my 1st SEVS (Sacramento Echo & Vascular Society) meeting. A peds cardiologist gave a lecture on Tetralogy of Fallot. It was really interesting and fun. I got to meet all the Echo techs from all over the city. These meetings are every other month so they will be good for my education hours.
Well, hope everyone is ready for tomorrow morning. It's time to start a new chapter in our life's. Good luck :)

Well I am officially in Coos Bay, no more trips back home for graduations or court :) I really do like it here. My house is amazing and it is close to everything, even god forsaken walmart, but most importantly it is close to the beach ! As much as I don't miss Klamath Falls and I am ready to go to work, I do miss school a little and have been very bored, even though I am setting up a house, taking care of the girls, and one has pneumonia! I am still VERY bored. I have been to the hospital and it is very nice. The people here are awesome and I have toured the whole department and they are excited for me to start! I also experienced the hospital when I took Taylor to the emergency room. They saw her within 10 minutes (nurse) and took her vitals right away, which by the way her heart rate was 153. She also got a room right away and we were in and out in less than an hour!!!! On top of that we got a follow up call the next morning from a nurse who answered my questions and gave me her own personal phone number! I can't wait to be at a place that cares about their patients like that! Besides that, my move wasn't as exciting as some of the long travelers, but we'll see what is in store....

The Last Frontier

Hi Everyone!
I'm so happy to hear your Extern stories and glad we're connecting on the blog! Well, I'm in ALASKA. My dad started driving my jetta up with everything I could pack into it on June 14th. He picked up his brother from his flight in Seattle and they continued to make the long journey together. Meanwhile, I was spending time with my mom, grandparents, boyfriend, and puppies :) The first part of the trip was fun, they did a lot of site-seeing, but the second half was just road and trees until Anchorage. They saw bison, goats, buffalo, moose, and every kind of bear! Including a grizzly enjoying the intestines of a dead bison, yuck. And they took the risk of stopping a taking a picture of a nearby grizzly and her cub, yikes! They arrived in Anchorage on June 19th and started searching for apartments for me. Let me tell ya, it was SCARY!! Everything is ridiculously expensive here and nobody seems to want to take care of their apartments, hmmmm. We were in a pickle. Not only that, but we had banked on a furnished place and couldn't seem to find any. Which was probably a good thing because I can only imagine how disgusting the furniture would be. We were about to put down a deposit for a shabby place close to the hospital, when we tried a phone call to one more place. It turned out that this was one of the places Sarah from DMS was looking into as well. I went and checked it out and it is AMAZING!! Beautiful leather furniture, a new kitchen, flat screen tv, cable, wireless internet, all utilities included, and a maid comes in every 2 weeks to clean! So, I'll be living with Sarah in this two bedroom castle and I'm very happy :) We meet with the lady today to finalize it! Since then, we've been exploring The Last Frontier, and it's been fun. Yesterday I saw a Moose and her Calf for the first time! It was really cool. Anchorage is WAY bigger than Klamath Falls and has tons to offer. The city itself is the size of the state of Delaware! Anyway, I move in to my new apartment on Thursday night and I start work at the gorgeous Providence Medical Center on July 6th. Wish me luck!

My studio is getting all set up, but I must say, putting together all the furniture from IKEA is really a pain in my rear! I will be starting at Baylor on Thursday and I just can't believe the time has come already...it feels like yesterday we were doing our draw! haha. Hope everyone is settling in and enjoying their last few days of Summer. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYBODY &&&&&& HAPPY 4TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :DDDD

Ready Set GO!

Well yal, its almost time for externship. U of U hospital let me come in for a "Test/Preview" day last week and right off the bat I was quizzed about views and anatomy. I thought that I was just going to be signing some paperwork, but little did I know I would actually be watching some exams (good thing I showed up in scrubs). My first exam was my first pediatric exam. I was so sad when we found the baby had 2 VSDs. A little hint to keep babies cooperative during an exam, ask the nurse for glucose and a binkie. It comes in a little syringe and just dab it on the binkie and it puts them straight to sleep. AMAZING :)

I think im going to like extern and Salt Lake City!
PS: My apartment complex has a POOL and HOT TUB :)

Well... I made it to RENO!!! Our new place in Sparks is nearly set up, still a ton of organizing to do :) I did a little snooping at Renown Medical Center with the fam... it looks amazing! Brand new, nice and shiny and a ton of beautiful artwork. I can't wait to get started! But until then I am enjoying my last little bit of freedom. Hope everyone is having a pleasant move away from Klambama!

Pictures

Hi Everyone!
Thank you so much for participating in this awesome blog :) As you may have noticed, I've edited our picture slideshow. It is a lot easier to add photos via picasa web albums through google, but I can only upload the albums separately and they're kinda small. . . Which slideshow do you like better? The old one or the new ones??

This page is awesome, thank you for setting it all up. Im also not very experienced with this, and hopefully I'm writing in the right place for this to be posted...oh well!! I hope everyone uses this blog page to keep in touch. I know for a few of us keeping in touch my computer may be the only way we have connection to friends and family! :/
I hope everyone is super excited to be going on extern and hope we can all focus and finish out these last few days of class...I know its been hard for me to do so! :)
